Contrasting 17th century European works with late 20th century American works
Starting with Sweelinck, the “maker of German organists,” through the generation of organists who studied with him, all the way to Bach (arguably the high-point of organ composing in Germany), this program includes some of the greatest composers for organ from the 17th century, contrasted with pieces chosen from the late 20th century of American organ composition, all which work especially well on mechanical action organs with a historical focus.
