Ensemble Coachings:

Having remained together since 2002, janus well knows the practices that create an effective ensemble. It is important that chamber musicians perform as a team, in addition to being well-rehearsed and prepared individually. Open to coaching any combination of instruments, janus exposes the communication dynamics within an ensemble and discusses practical techniques for improving communication among the ensemble members (thereby carrying over to a convincing performance). janus works with any period of chamber music, reinforcing strengths and uncovering weaknesses in the students’ technical performance while exploring the inner workings of the ensemble.

Masterclasses:

Each member of janus is available to present a masterclass to the studios of their respective instruments. As janus specializes in new music, it is important for participating students to perform contemporary compositions. Limiting the choice of repertoire to works from the 20th and 21st centuries lends consistency to the masterclass, allowing for this specialized writing to be fully explored. In this context, the student will learn how to methodically approach music that is often perceived as intimidating, and will be given tools to sculpt and organize the work for an effective performance. Additionally, the members of janus commonly discuss their own career paths and how to build a successful career as a musician.
